Kashaya Dhara is a classical Ayurvedic therapy where warm herbal decoctions are poured over the body in a continuous stream in a rhythmic manner. The therapy is known to cleanse, rejuvenate, and balance the doshas, which proves to be preventive and curative.
Meaning of Kashaya Dhara
- Kashaya – Herbal Decoction (prepared from medicinal plants)
- Dhara – Continuous pouring
When combined, the pouring of warm herbal decoctions over the body heals therapeutically.
Line of Treatment: How Kashaya Dhara is Performed at VVAC
Pre-Treatment Doctor’s Consultation: VVAC’s Ayurvedic physician examines our health seeker’s body type, dosha imbalance, and health concerns to chalk out a personalized treatment plan. Selection of Kashayas (Herbs, Medicines, & more): Based on the severity of the health condition, suitable treatments and herbs are chosen. Following, the kashyas (herbal decoctions) are freshly prepared at VVAC’s in-house Kashayapura. Oil Application (Snehanam): To prepare the body for the main treatment, a light massage with medicated oils is done to relax the muscles. |
During Treatment Continuous Pouring (Dhara): Warm herbal decoction is poured in a rhythmic manner over the whole body or a specific area in a continuous stream. Therapist’s Technique: In a single “Kashaya Dhara” treatment, two therapists work in a synchronized motion to ensure that flow of the Dhara is consistent. Swedana: The heat from the decoction automatically induces mild perspiration that helps in flushing out of the toxins. Deep Relaxation: The smooth stream relieves pain, reduces pain, stiffness and calms the mind too. |
Post-Treatment Wiping & Rest: The body is gently wiped, and the health seeker rests for a short while for the effects to settle, feel, and show. Dietary Support: Light, organic, sattvic meals are prescribed to support detox, digestion, and healing. Follow-Up Care: Depending on the condition, this therapy is advised for 7 to 14 days for optimum results. Also, it is advisable to not go under cold conditions immediately after the treatment. Typical duration of Kashaya Dhara: 45-60 minutes per session |
