Treat Your Adenomyosis with Traditional Kerala Ayurveda

How Ayurveda Treats Adenomyosis ?

Adenomyosis, a condition where endometrial tissue grows into the muscular wall of the uterus, can be challenging to manage. Conventional medicine often relies on hormonal therapies or, in severe cases, hysterectomy. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a holistic approach to address the root cause of adenomyosis and alleviate symptoms.

What Treatments Do We Offer?

  • Ayurveda views adenomyosis as a result of imbalances in the three doshas, the energy forces governing the body:

    • Vata Dosha: When Vata, the dosha of air and movement, is aggravated, it can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, cramps, and pelvic pain.
    • Pitta Dosha: Excess Pitta, the dosha of fire and metabolism, can manifest as heavy bleeding, inflammation, and endometriosis-like symptoms.
    • Kapha Dosha: In some cases, Kapha, the dosha associated with earth and water, can contribute to the thickening of the uterine wall and enlargement of the uterus.

    Ayurvedic Treatment for Adenomyosis:

Ayurveda employs a multi-pronged approach to manage adenomyosis, focusing on reducing inflammation, balancing the doshas, and promoting overall uterine health. Here are some key aspects:

    1. Dietary and Lifestyle Modifications:

    • Eliminating triggers: Identifying and avoiding food triggers like dairy, red meat, processed foods, and caffeine, which can aggravate inflammation.
    • Soothing diet: Following a sattvic diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and ghee to nourish the body and reduce inflammation.
    • Lifestyle practices: Getting adequate sleep, practicing yoga and meditation for stress management, and engaging in gentle exercise like walking or swimming to support hormonal balance.

    2. Panchakarma Therapy:

    • Detoxification: This set of five Ayurvedic cleansing procedures can help remove accumulated toxins and restore balance. It may include oil massage (snehana), sweating (swedana), medicated vomiting (vamana), purgation (virechana), and enemas (basti). However, these are typically not recommended for mild to moderate cases.

    3. Herbal Remedies

  • Local applications: Topical application of herbal pastes such as castor oil, turmeric, or ashwagandha can help soothe pain and inflammation.

  • Kapha-reducing herbs: Punarnava, Kutki, Amalaki

  • Internal medications: Based on the doshic imbalance, various herbs are used to address specific symptoms.
